Folding clothes properly keeps your wardrobe tidy, saves space, and helps your clothes stay in great condition. Follow these simple techniques to fold clothes like a pro!

What You’ll Need

  • Flat, clean surface (e.g., a table or bed).
  • Your clothes freshly laundered and wrinkle-free.

Folding Basics

1. T-Shirts

  • Lay the shirt face down on a flat surface.
  • Fold one side of the shirt toward the center, aligning the sleeve.
  • Fold the sleeve back over the folded portion.
  • Repeat on the other side.
  • Fold the shirt in half lengthwise or into thirds, depending on your drawer size.

2. Pants

  • Lay the pants flat, making sure the legs are aligned.
  • Fold one leg over the other.
  • Fold in thirds or quarters, starting from the bottom.

3. Socks

  • Lay one sock on top of the other.
  • Roll tightly from the toes up to the cuff.
  • Fold the cuff of one sock over the roll to secure.

4. Button-Up Shirts

  • Button the shirt completely.
  • Lay it face down, smoothing out wrinkles.
  • Fold one sleeve in toward the center, then the other.
  • Fold the shirt in half lengthwise, then fold it into thirds.

5. Dresses

  • For sleeveless dresses: Fold the dress in half lengthwise.
  • For dresses with sleeves: Fold sleeves toward the back.
  • Fold in half horizontally, then into thirds if needed.

6. Underwear

  • Lay flat and fold into thirds lengthwise.
  • Fold again into a compact square or rectangle.

7. Towels

  • Fold lengthwise into thirds.
